VietNamNet Bridge – More than 100 companies displayed their products at a four-day Eco-Products International Fair 2008 (EPIF 2008) which opened on Saturday at the National Convention Center in Hanoi.

The fourth EPIF 2008 chose to go with the theme For sustainable development and Better life this year. The event was co-organised by the Asian Productivity Organisation (APO) and the Directorate for Standard and Quality (STAMEQ), the Viet Nam Productivity Centre (VPC) and the Viet Nam Association for Conservation of Nature and Environment.

The purpose of the fair is simple: to raise people's awareness about the benefits of eco-friendly products and services as well as promote the activities that boost investment or joint venture programmes in this field, said Minister of the Ministry of Science and Technology Hoang Van Phong.

The fair contributed to the enhancement of awareness amongst consumers and society about the quality assurance, protection of the environment and community health, said Phong.

Around 60 exhibitors from Japan, China, Singapore, Korea, Germany and Vietnam displayed their eco-friendly products and services with an aim to accelerate the expansion of green markets in the region.

At the fair, Panasonic Vietnam presented its eco ideas by displaying its latest environmentally-friendly products. The company late last year announced its commitment to protecting the environment by producing energy-efficient products and reducing global CO2 emission by 300,000 tons by March 2010.

Toyota Motor Viet Nam (TMV) introduced its environmentally friendly vehicles and engines as well as its environmentally protective activities.

The fair provided several opportunities to government organisations and local and international companies to share their experiences and exchange views on enhancing competitiveness and boosting sustainable development in the country.
