In 1995, Con Dao was listed in a Global Representative System of Marine Protected Areas by the World Bank and Con Dao was also a key zone in the Biodiversity Action Plan for Vietnam that was approved by the Prime Minister in 1995.

To be recognized as a Ramsar site, the Con Dao National Park must meet the criteria of location, geography, ecological potential, biodiversity as well as values of landscape, environment, economics and society ...This significant event has confirmed the results of management and nature conservation in Con Dao for nearly 30 years since the Government decided to establish a nature reserve in this historical archipelago.
