Rare pheasants spotted in Chu Mom Ray National Park

20 May 2026 | 07:06:00 AM

Several rare pheasant species have been spotted living in the wild at Chu Mom Ray National Park in Quang Ngai Province.

The birds were recorded through camera traps and forest patrols conducted by rangers at the national park.

Species identified included the crested argus, chestnut-necklaced partridge, red-faced liocichla and Siamese fireback, according to park director Dao Xuan Thuy.

Authorities said some of the species are listed under Vietnam’s highest wildlife protection categories due to their rarity and conservation status.

Park officials said the birds mainly inhabit old-growth forests with dense canopy cover, high humidity and limited human disturbance.

The appearance of the rare birds was considered a positive sign that the forest ecosystem at Chu Mom Ray National Park remained relatively intact.

Following the sightings, forest protection forces have increased patrols and installed additional camera traps to monitor wildlife movements.

Chu Mom Ray National Park covers more than 56,000 hectares and is home to around 1,000 animal species, including more than 100 rare and endangered species, according to park authorities.
