The event was jointly organized by the European Union (EU), the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) and the Vietnam Chamber of Commerce and Industry (VCCI).
SMEs account for 90 percent of all businesses in Vietnam. However, they only have low technologies that consume a lot of materials and produce a huge volume of exhaust and waste.
Le Minh Duc, Head of the Industrial Policy and Strategy Institute under the Ministry of Industry and Trade, said SMEs should clean up their facilities, plant trees and conserve water electricity and input materials to save costs and protect the environment. They should also find ways to recycle and reuse waste.
The forum is part of a project to support SMEs in Vietnam in improving their knowledge and fulfilling their social responsibility to strengthen links with the global supply chain for sustainable production. A similar forum will be held in Ho Chi Minh City on October 13.
