Several destinations recorded tourism revenues above VND 1 trillion during the 2026 New Year holiday, led by HCM City, as favourable weather and a four day break boosted domestic travel nationwide.

This year’s new year holiday lasted four days and coincided with generally favourable weather conditions, driving strong tourism activity across most destinations in Vietnam.

Ho Chi Minh City remained the country’s leading destination in both visitor numbers and revenue, welcoming about 1.24 million visitors. Hotel occupancy was estimated at 75 per cent, while total tourism revenue exceeded VND 2.60 trillion (about USD 102 million).

Hanoi also posted strong growth, receiving around 560,000 visitors, up about 250 per cent year on year. International arrivals were estimated at 110,000, an increase of 287 per cent. Hotel occupancy reached about 73 per cent, with tourism revenue of roughly VND 2.10 trillion (about USD 82 million), up 254 per cent.

Quang Ninh Province reported about 657,000 visitors, including 218,000 overnight guests, generating an estimated VND 1.62 trillion (about USD 63.5 million) in tourism revenue.

Lao Cai Province welcomed around 363,000 visitors, earning about VND 1.50 trillion (about USD 58.8 million). Sapa attracted the largest share, with about 148,000 visitors, while Sun World Fansipan Legend alone received around 45,000 guests.

Lam Dong Province hosted approximately 650,000 visitors, with tourism revenue estimated at VND 1.20 trillion (about USD 47 million), according to the provincial department of culture, sports and tourism.

The Vietnam National Authority of Tourism said domestic travel continued to dominate during the four day new year break, while outbound travellers tended to choose nearby, easily accessible markets suited to shorter trips.

The authority described the results as a positive signal for the tourism sector’s 2026 targets of welcoming 25 million international visitors and serving 150 million domestic trips.
