Rare slow loris found at house in Quang Tri

12 May 2026 | 04:56:00 AM

A rare slow loris was found climbing near the entrance of a resident’s home in the central province of Quang Tri before being handed over for release back into the wild.

Police in Trung Thuan Commune said the animal was discovered by Hoang Xuan Tam, a local resident, who reported it after recognising it as a protected wild species.

Police later coordinated with forest rangers to identify the animal as a rare slow loris subject to strict wildlife protection regulations.

Following a health check, the loris was released into a natural forest area in accordance with regulations.

According to local authorities, this was the second time in recent months that residents in the commune had voluntarily handed over a slow loris for release.

Residents were also urged to notify relevant agencies when encountering injured, trapped or stray wild animals instead of keeping, trading or harming them illegally.

Last week, a rare pygmy slow loris listed in Vietnam’s Red Data Book was also found in a garden in Tuyen Hoa Commune, Quang Tri.
