Areas including Ton Duc Thang, Ham Nghi and Nguyen Hue streets and the Bach Dang Wharf were strewn with discarded plastic bottles, food containers, plastic bags and mats shortly after the festivities ended.
In some locations, waste accumulated along pavements and road barriers, affecting both cleanliness and traffic safety.
On Ton Duc Thang Street, rubbish covered large sections of the roadway, while along Ham Nghi Street and Nguyen Hue pedestrian street, people were seen sitting among piles of waste as sanitation workers began overnight clean-up operations.
At Bach Dang Wharf, where thousands had gathered to watch the fireworks, food waste rose sharply and many bins quickly overflowed.
Sanitation workers were deployed overnight to clear the streets, but the recurring litter after major celebrations continues to highlight gaps in public awareness.
A local resident said the situation risked damaging the city’s image, especially among visitors, and urged people to dispose of rubbish properly to help keep public spaces clean.
