The pilot scheme will run until December 31.
Hanoi authorities have assigned the Department of Construction to cooperate with the Department of Finance and other concerned agencies to operate the route in line with regulations.
Hanoi is now home to 154 bus routes, including 26 using green or clean energy. In addition, there are nearly 8,000 electric taxis out of 19,000 vehicles, accounting for almost 50 per cent.
According to Nguyen Tuyen, Head of the Transport Management Division at Hanoi’s Construction Department, the city has two metro lines, about 2,250 buses, 18,800 taxis, and app-based ride-hailing services.
Public transport in Hanoi currently meets just 19.5 per cent of travel demand. The city has about eight million motorbikes and nearly 1.5 million cars, with private vehicle ownership rising by 4.5 per cent annually.
