VACNE coordinates to organize training for teachers in the Northern coastal region on environmental education, reducing ocean plastic waste

(VACNE) - On December 10 and 11, 2024, in Hanoi, the VACNE, in collaboration with the University of Science (Hue University) and WWF – Vietnam opened a training class for nearly 60 teachers and key officials of the education sector in the Northern coastal region on environmental education and ocean plastic waste reduction

This is an activity within the framework of the Ocean Plastic Waste Reduction Project in Vietnam implemented by the Marine and Islands Department (MONRE) in collaboration with WWF – Vietnam. In order to support the implementation of the National Action Plan on Ocean Plastic Waste Management to 2030 issued by the Prime Minister under Decision No. 1746/QD-TTg, as well as support to improve the capacity of plastic waste management, communication activities, capacity building, etc raising awareness and changing behaviour towards plastic waste.

Attending and directly directing this training class were Dr. Nguyen Ngoc Sinh, President of the VACNE; Dr. Tran Hieu Nhue. Vice President of the VACNE; ASS. Dr. Hoang Cong Tin, Branch of the Faculty of Environment, University of Science (Hue University), Ms. Nguyen Thi Trang Nguyen, representative of WWF – Vietnam and Dr. Ngo Lan Phuong, representative of the Management Board of the Ocean Plastic Waste Reduction Project in Vietnam.

At the training class, the trainees were introduced to 4 topics: Environmental Protection Education & Plastic Waste Reduction; The education model of zero-waste green schools and how to implement them; Tools to support teaching and guide the implementation of activities with students; Field program (with very specific goals, requirements, and tasks). During the training period, the trainees not only had the opportunity to visit the model of plastic waste collection, classification and treatment and highlights of environmental protection in the central area of Hanoi, but also shared experiences and participated in games related to environmental protection education and plastic waste reduction./.
