at Phong Nha-Ke Bang National Park

The animals, from six species, included two Asian leaf turtles, one python, five masked palm civets, one Indochinese box turtle, one elongated tortoise and one wild boar.

Except for the wild boar, all belong to Group IIB under Vietnam’s classification of rare and endangered forest species.

They had been rescued, cared for and rehabilitated at the park’s rescue, conservation and development centre before being returned to their natural habitat.

Release sites were selected based on suitable conditions, including food availability, shelter and safety, to match each species’ ecological behaviour.
