Con Dao receives USD 40,000 beach-cleaning machine

03 April 2026 | 08:32:00 AM

Con Dao Special Zone in HCM City has received a specialised sand-sifting machine worth over VND 1 billion (USD 38,023) to clean beaches and support its green tourism image.

The handover took place on April 2, when the Con Dao administration received the equipment from Vietsovpetro to strengthen environmental protection and preserve coastal landscapes.

The machine, funded by the company, consists of a towing unit and a screening system capable of cleaning up to 14,500 square metres per hour, with a working width of 1.8 metres and a maximum depth of 15 centimetres.

Equipped with a 190-litre corrosion-resistant steel waste container, the system collects sand mixed with debris, returning clean sand to the beach while separating waste into a storage compartment.

The technology can handle both soft and solid waste, improving on manual clean-up methods.

Nguyen Van Manh, vice chairman of the Con Dao People’s Committee, said the support was timely as the island faces marine debris washing ashore, with clean beaches vital to protecting ecosystems and its eco-tourism appeal.

Manh assigned the Public Service Centre to receive and operate the sand-sifting machine, ensuring its effective use while raising community awareness of environmental protection and supporting sustainable local tourism.

Mai Dang Tuan, deputy general director of Vietsovpetro, said the donation reflected the company’s long-standing commitment to social responsibility and environmental protection over more than four decades of operations.

Following the handover, officials observed the machine in operation at An Hai Beach.

A similar sand-sifting machine was deployed in Vung Tau in July 2025 to clean local beaches.
