(VietNamNet Bridge)-Vedan Vietnam signed September 10 an agreement to compensate nearly VND120 billion (US$6.3 million) to farmers in Long Thanh and Nhon Trach districts, Dong Nai Province for damage to farmland caused by its illegal discharge of untreated wastewater into the Thi Vai River.

The 14th annual international competition for the Stockholm Junior Water Prize concluded this evening. The winners, Alexandre Allard and Danny Luong from Canada were handed the prize by H.R.H. Crown Princess Victoria of Sweden at a ceremony at the World Water Week in Stockholm. Their research on biodegradation of the plastic Polystyrene won them the prize.

Most of farmers in the southern province of Dong Nai have agreed not to sue Taiwanese MSG company Vedan and accept its VND120 billion compensation for damage it caused to them by polluting the ThiVaiRiver.
