Ho Chi Minh City extends Metro Line 2 by over 200 metres

23 December 2025 | 06:39:00 AM

Ho Chi Minh City has approved adjustments to Metro Line 2 (Ben Thanh-Tham Luong), extending the route by more than 200 metres to improve network connectivity.

Under a decision issued by the city’s People’s Committee, the line’s length will increase from 11.042 kilometres to 11.269 kilometres.

The revised plan includes 9.255 kilometres underground, 0.265 kilometres of transition, 0.846 kilometres elevated and a 0.903 kilometres at-grade section leading to the Tham Luong depot.

The starting point will be extended to connect directly with Ben Thanh Station on Metro Line 1, ensuring seamless interchange. Metro Line 2 is planned to intersect Metro Line 3 at Tao Dan Station, Metro Line 5 at Bay Hien and Metro Line 6 at Ba Queo, prompting design adjustments to facilitate walking access and transfers.

Tao Dan Station will be shortened to 244.6 metres to ease passenger movement to Metro Line 3 platforms, while Bay Hien will feature a direct connection between the platforms of metro lines 2 and 5.

The route largely follows the existing plan, running underground beneath Pham Hong Thai, Cach Mang Thang Tam and Truong Chinh streets. It will pass through 14 wards and comprise 11 stations, 10 underground and one elevated, along with the Tham Luong depot.

The city has tasked the Urban Railway Management Board with defining station and depot reference points for transit-oriented development planning and reviewing potential impacts from other proposed rail projects.

The project requires the acquisition of 251,136 square metres of land, affecting 585 cases. Authorities said site clearance has been completed. The city expects to approve the project in 2025, with construction scheduled to begin on January 15, 2026.
