A fine of between VND 500,000 - VND 1 million will be applied to individuals or households that fail to classify waste, according to a newly-issued government decree.
New fines on waste classification violations
According to the decree, the fines will be imposed on households that fail to classify solid waste or properly keep waste in suitable bags.
Factories, construction investors, service businesses, or industrial zones which discharge more than 300 kilos of waste daily will also be subject to a fine of between VND 15-20 million if they fail to sign contracts on collecting, transporting, recycling, and treating their waste, the decree said.
A fine of between VND 20-30 million would be imposed on those who violate environmental protection regulations while transporting waste.
Individuals and organisations will face reprimands and a fine of VND 1 billion and VND 2 billion, respectively if they are guilty of environmental protection administrative violations.
The decree will take effect from August 25.
