On 21st January 2024, Hue City People's Committee coordinated with Vietsoftpro Joint Stock Company to organise the Relaunch Ceremony of the public bicycle system in the city centre with 200 bicycles at 7 existing stations with the hope of creating a public bicycle sharing system that is operating stably and sustainably…

The public shared bicycle system in Hue is deployed based on the content of the memorandum of understanding between the Hue City People's Committee, the German Development Cooperation Organization (GIZ) and Vietsoftpro Joint Stock Company to aim at developing sustainable urban transport and smart cities. The project is divided into 3 phases, of which phase 1 (from June to December 2022) piloted a smart public shared bicycle route in Hue City with 7 stations located on both sides of the Perfume River and in the Hue Citadel area.

Through phase 1 evaluation, there were 12,000 bicycle uses. Service customers include tourists, local residents, and students. The locations of stations in phase 1 are located close to important tourist destinations, convenient for tourists and residents to use; creating convenience for tourists and residents to pick up and return vehicles at many different points in Hue City, suitable for short travel distances... The service has attracted residents and tourists to experience, use to visit tourist attractions - relics in the centre of Hue City. After the maintenance and upgrading process, up to now 7 bicycle stations have been put back into operation since 12th January 2024. Vietsoftpro Company and related units have completed the software, equipped with a 4G locking system and deployed the installation of a new locking system on bicycles.

The restart of the public bicycle system in the central area of Hue City is also aimed at creating an experiential, attractive, health-sustainable and environmentally sustainable sports tourism product, spreading the cycling movement in the community. At the same time, widely promote and introduce the public bicycle sharing system to tourists and people in the area, contributing to the development of green transportation and building "Hue into a bicycle city".

Leaders of Hue City People's Committee said that in order to continue to effectively implement the pilot project of public shared bicycle system in Hue city, the locality has set a goal that by June 2024, it will operate about 600 bicycles at 20 stations; from September 2024, about 1,000 bicycles will be operated at 30 stations; continue to operate the comprehensive bicycle system on a large scale…

In parallel, Hue City will deploy priority routes for bicycles; coordinate stations to expand and locate in central locations, near parks... to ensure convenience for residents and tourists to use.
