Consultation Workshop on Strategic Environmental Assessment of Dien Bien Biodiversity Conservation Planning
On November 10-11, 2011 in Dien Bien City, Vietnam Association for Conservation of Nature and Environment (VACNE) held 2 consultation workshops on Strategic Environmental Assessment of Dien Bien Province's Biodiversity Conservation Planning on provincial and district levels.
The first workshop drew participation of representatives of Dien Bien Province's People's Committee departments and leaderships of its districts. In his speech, Deputy Director of Dien Bien Department for Natural Resources and Environment Mr. Phan Hien says, “Concepts of Strategic Environmental Assessment and Biodiversity Conservation Planning are very new for Dien Bien province as well as for the whole country.” However, with efforts by VACNE, as a consultation association, we hope that we can have good strategic environmental assessment reports for planning activities to create a premise for biodiversity conservation and development in Dien Bien Province.
The workshop received many valuable contributions from participants which helped the consulting association get the best research results.
On November 11, 2011, the second workshop for district and commune level communities took place in Ngoi Cay Commune, Muong Ang District, Dien Bien Province.

The workshop drew participation of more than 70 delegates, including chairmen, vice-chairmen, Party's secretaries, and deputy secretaries of the 2 districts of Muong Dang and Ngoi Cay. The delegates heard about the most important contents of strategic environmental assessment of Dien Bien Province's Biodiversity Conservation Planning and expressed their full support by filling out questionnaires given to them by the Organizing Committee.
The consultation took place in an ebullient and harmonized atmosphere, with exchanges of ideas interested by both the community and the Organizing Committee.
