Experts from the Vietnam Association for the Conservation of Nature and Environment on surveying and consulting for the rescue of heritage trees that have fallen due to storms. ...
(VACNE) – On July 5, 2025, the Vietnam Association for Conservation of Nature and Environment sent a team of experts to Kim Quy village, Dai Xuyen commune (over 30 km south of Hanoi) to survey and advise on saving the banyan tree that had just fallen after a storm.
This is an ancient tree that was honored as a Heritage Tree of Vietnam at the end of 2024, which is where the red flag with hammer and sickle was hoisted on May 1, 1930, and also a meeting point for local militia during the fight against French colonialism.

The VACNE expert delegation exchanged ideas with representatives of Dai Xuyen commune and Kim Quy village.
Here, the delegation directly exchanged with the leaders, representatives of the Cultural Department of Dai Xuyen commune and Kim Quy village, listened to the elder of the village and representatives of the elderly in the locality report on the situation and directly surveyed the site.
Everyone unanimously agrees: After being honored as a Vietnamese Heritage Tree, this Banyan tree has been better cared for by the community, with its leaves lush and green. However, due to some branches being too heavy and the trunk being too old (rotten) and affected by prolonged rain, the weight has increased, leading to one of the tree trunks breaking (even without a storm) in the early morning of July 3..
In light of this situation, everyone agrees: warning signs are needed to prohibit people from passing under branches that are at risk of breaking to prevent accidents; at the same time, it is necessary to quickly cut the decayed branches, support the remaining healthy parts after cutting, and tie them to the still healthy trunk. Supplementary small banyan trees of the same species should be planted at the base of the decayed branches. Note: regularly monitor, prune branches to prevent rainstorms, and expand the living space for some existing prop roots.
After discussing and listening to the guidance of experts on tree care techniques, Mr. Nghiêm Văn Chuẩn, the head of Kim Quy village, on behalf of the local officials and people, expressed gratitude to the Vietnam Natural Resources and Environment Protection Association for their interest and advice that helped the local community to timely save the Heritage Tree, an invaluable witness of history, which is a great source of pride for the people of Đại Xuyên and the city of Hanoi.

Discuss and agree on the plan to save the banyan tree at the site.
