(VACNE) – On June 22, 2025, the local government and people of Kha Lieu village, Phuc Tien commune, Phu Xuyen district held a solemn ceremony to receive the certificate recognizing the Vietnam Heritage Tree for the over 400-year-old jackfruit tree and to receive the certificate ranking the Hung Long Pagoda as a city-level historical site.

The ceremony was solemnly held with the presence of a large number of delegates, monks, Buddhist followers, and local people. Notably, Prof. Dr. Dang Huy Huynh, ASEAN Biodiversity Hero, Vice Chairman of the Vietnam Nature and Environment Conservation Association, and Chairman of the Vietnam Heritage Tree Council, attended in person to present the certificate recognizing Vietnam's Heritage Tree to the government and people of Khả Liễu village..

Speaking at the ceremony, Mr. Vu Tien Tam, head of Phuc Tien village, emphasized: "The City-level Historical Relic Certificate and the recognition of the Heritage Tree of Vietnam mark a new beginning, representing a great responsibility in the preservation of precious trees, restoration, and promotion of historical values. Every citizen and community should continue to unite and work together so that the temple and the heritage of the Mít tree will forever be a source of pride for our homeland."

Located in the grounds of the temple, the Great Fig Tree is a one-of-a-kind ancient tree, not only a familiar fruit tree but also a living witness of history. According to the elders and specialized studies, the Great Fig Tree is estimated to be over 400 years old, with a height of about 18 meters and a canopy spread of nearly 20 meters.

The tree has gone through centuries, witnessing countless historical events, from the feudal era to the resistance against the French and the Americans. Its longevity is a symbol of vibrant life, a source of pride not only for the people of Kha Lieu village but for the entire community.

The recognition of the Mít Tree as a Heritage Tree of Vietnam not only contributes to the preservation of precious natural values but also enhances community awareness about landscape preservation, environmental protection, and the promotion of cultural and historical values of the nation.
