In an interview with reporters, Dr Nguyen Ngoc Sinh, President of the Vietnam Association for Nature and Environment Protection, expressed his excitement and deep confidence in the country's transformation in the upcoming term. According to him, from the preparation work, the 14th Congress left an impression due to its rigorous and scientific approach, especially in mobilising the intelligence of a wide range of people, scientists, and professional associations to contribute ideas to the draft documents.
As a result, the Congress was not only successful in terms of content but also left an impression with its innovative working methods, saving time while still ensuring the programme was comprehensive and effective. More importantly, the Congress established a long-term strategic vision, aimed at the centenary milestones of both the Party and the country, laying a foundation for the sustainable development of the nation.
Analysing the content related to nature conservation and climate change response in the Congress documents, Dr Nguyen Ngoc Sinh believes that leadership thinking on the environment has made significant progress. From the first directives in 1998, Resolution No. 24-NQ/TW in 2013 to the orientations at the 14th Congress, environmental issues have increasingly been viewed comprehensively, closely linked with socio-economic development.
In particular, in the political report and the Congress resolution, eight continuous contents on the implementation of strategic decisions clearly reflect the view of considering the environment as a pillar of development. Placing the environment on an equal footing with the economy and society creates a solid 'three-legged stool', in which environmental culture and environmental ethics are identified as the foundation for sustainable development.
Regarding the eighth content on resource and environmental management, Dr. Nguyễn Ngọc Sinh considers this a vital policy, especially in the context of Vietnam frequently facing natural disasters. The application of science and technology, particularly artificial intelligence (AI) in early warning systems, is seen as a breakthrough approach. However, he also emphasises the need to harmoniously combine modern technology with local knowledge and traditional experience to build a sustainable disaster prevention system and ensure socio-economic stability.
