Themed “Moving Planet” in 2011, the global campaign on climate change 350.org in Vietnam is organized nationwide with many activities that take place simultaneously such as organizing “Climate camp,” training people on climate change and helping affected residential areas in Can Gio district, Ho Chi Minh City. At the same time, the communication campaigns at schools with the theme “Month of action for green schools” took place to raise awareness of the youth on climate change, to create an orientation towards green living, to use renewable energy. Families and agencies were also called on to paint their house roofs white and to plant creepers on walls to reduce indoor temperature and save energy, etc. Besides, on the global action day, which falls on September 24, the Coordination board of the campaign 350.org will mobilize thousands of people to go to school and to work by bicycle or on foot.
The highlighting point of the campaign is “Moving art festival for climate” in which an environmental painting made of straws will be displayed, a breakdance contest themed “Moving planet”, and a “Week without straws” for coffee and tea shops in Ho Chi Minh City.
The campaign 350.org aims at fighting against climate change and has been launched in 188 nations. The number 350 means 350ppm- the maximum safe level for CO2 concentration in the atmosphere. Currently, CO2 concentration is at 393ppm, so it is necessary to take actions early to avoid serious consequences caused by climate change.
