Ho Chi Minh City to launch first electric bus route in Can Gio

12 February 2026 | 09:09:00 AM

Ho Chi Minh City will begin operating its first electric bus route in the Can Gio area on March 1, marking the start of a plan to convert all local buses to clean energy by the end of 2026.

The service is expected to improve transport capacity in An Thoi Dong and nearby areas, while supporting a safer and greener public transport network. It will be Can Gio’s first electric bus route.

Can Gio currently has five bus routes, though services remain limited and public transport coverage reaches only about 60 per cent of residents within walking distance.

Under a draft vehicle emissions control plan, the city aims for 100 per cent of buses operating in Can Gio, including existing vehicles, to switch to clean and green energy by December 31, 2026.
