Overview of the Centre Coast of Vietnam

10 August 2009 | 05:44:00 PM

The Centre Coast of Vietnam extends from Thanh Hoa province to Binh Thuan province, separated into 2 great areas are Northern Centre area(Thanh Hoa, Nghe An, Ha Tinh, Quang Binh, Quang Tri, Thua Thien Hue province) and Coastal Southern Centre area (Da Nang, Quang Nam, Quang Ngai, Binh Dinh, Phu Yen, Khanh Hoa, Ninh Thuan and Binh Thuan province).

In the middle of two fertile deltas of Vietnam (the Red River delta and Mekong Delta), the Centre Coast Delta has modest area in comparison with them. The Centre delta involves a number of small plains with sand dunes and lagoons. In general, the Delta has disadvantage natural conditions: narrow and slop topography, severe climate with permanent threatening from droughts and floods. Those make villagers difficult in living and producing as well as disheartened investors. In present, GDP of provinces of the Coastal Centre except Da Nang city is still lower than average GDP of the whole country (equal to 70% average GDP of Vietnam).

In this context, one satisfactory sign is that the State has promulgated policies to encourage economic development of the area. A latest legal document is the Decision number 61/2008/QĐ-Ttg to approve General Plan of developing social economic in Centre Coast of Vietnam toward 2020. Overall goal of the plan is to build the Centre Coast being development economic zone in harmony with progress, social equality, protecting and reproducing natural environment and improving living quality. We hope that those will be come true in the near future.
