First Heritage Tree to be recognized in 2024

(VACNE) – On 14/01/2024, the government and people of Nghia Lo commune solemnly organized the Ceremony of Recognition of Vietnamese Heritage Tree for the more than 300-year-old Gạo tree at To Son Temple, Nghia Lo Commune, Cat Hai District, Hai Phong City.

This is the first Heritage Tree Recognition Ceremony in 2024, and also the second tree of Nghia Lo commune to be recognized as a Vietnamese Heritage Tree. In the near future, many localities have planned and organized recognition ceremonies such as Cao Bang, Phu Tho, Hanoi, Hai Duong, Dong Nai , ...

According to the genealogy, the Gạo tree was planted in 1705, when the Hung Son Mother Temple was built. Currently, the tree is still green, the Gạo tree has a trunk circumference at a height of 1.3 m is 5.9m, the spreading canopy occupies an area of more than 100m2, the bark is rough, many tumors. The tree is well protected and cared for by local people and communities.


ASS. Dr. Tran Ngoc Hai, Vice Chairman of the Vietnam Heritage Tree Council attended the ceremony on behalf of the Vietnam Association for Conservation of Nature and Environment to local representatives. Speaking at the Assoc. Dr. Tran Ngoc Hai also emphasized that the recognition of Gạo tree in To Son Temple as Vietnamese Heritage Trees adds historical value, contributes to the development of local tourism, and raises public awareness about the protection of natural landscapes.
