Hanoi will install an additional 5,000 artificial intelligence-powered cameras in the first half of 2026 to strengthen traffic monitoring and enforcement,.
The move forms part of broader efforts to improve road safety and ease congestion in the capital through adjustments to traffic organisation, stricter enforcement and infrastructure upgrades.
Vice Chairman Duong Duc Tuan said the city tackled accident-prone sites and adjusted traffic flows in 2025, while police handled over 264,000 violations, issuing fines of more than VND 621 billion (about USD 23,612).
Nearly 2,000 AI cameras were installed in 2025 alongside upgraded traffic management software and signal systems.
With 5,000 more cameras due to be added in the first half of 2026, the total will exceed 7,000, rising to 13,000 by the end of the year and 20,000 overall in subsequent phases.
Officials said the expanded camera network is a key solution to modernising traffic management and reducing accidents across the city.
